Seasons 1-8 see shippers placing bids on two of the shipments listed on the uShip website. It is an auction reverse format. Bids are typically made with remarks about the potential risk and cost and also the motivations and potential capabilities. When the time limit for an auction is reached, the job is typically awarded to the lowest bidder; at the client's discretion however, it could be awarded to a higher bidder that has a better average rating for feedback from previous clients. If the bidder is lowest there will be a tie broken by feedback ratings. Season 9 shipping companies receive their loads via the services of a shipping broker. They are not aware of the bidding process. Instead they load their cargo, and then try to deliver it on time within the timeframe of the receiver or client. Once the loads have been delivered, the feedback ratings are provided by clients. The show concludes with each shipper's revenue and expenses. To calculate the profit or loss, the amount of bids is subtracted. Sometimes, a shipper will offer to haul several additional loads on the same trip, and the additional money is incorporated into their total. Sometimes, a shipper might not be able to finish the task due to concerns over the size of the load or the weight and road safety. One shipper might employ an additional person to help with an assignment. When the work is completed, the shippers decide how to split the proceeds. In the first eight seasons the process of each shipment is interspersed with humorous criticisms from the other shippers.
