April Ross
April Ross was one of the few female beach volleyball athletes who earned medals in several Olympics. In Tokyo during the next few days, she'll try to net her third medal alongside the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross hopes to win her Olympic debut gold, but she's also hoping for greater. It could be the last opportunity she gets to do so at the age of 39. She remains optimistic that she will be able to win top awards. Ross said on NBC Boston that if they are at their absolute best or even a good game her team can win a gold medal. This is also an issue of luck. Ross was born in California in Costa Mesa, California in 1982. She grew up in Costa Mesa along with her parents and younger sister. She was able to participate in many activities during her time at Newport Harbor High School. As a pre-schooler she played the indoor game of volleyball, as well as basketball and track. She was definitely the best in the game of indoor volleyball. As per her biography, during high school she was a volleyball player as an outside setter (middle blocker) as well as a setting (outside blocker). The results of her efforts were acknowledged in 1999 when she was named Gatorade's Circle Of Champions National players of the year. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month award was also won by her due to her volleyball skills. Ross and Klineman are doing what they do since the year 2017. The reality is that Ross was a major player on the beach volleyball circuit prior to the pair. In fact, she's been able to win multiple events, one of which was with an iconic volleyball player. The pair teamed with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and was also Klineman's coach. Kessy and Ross were a formidable force in the international circuit, winning the 2009 World Championship together. They were awarded a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the team of legends who won the 2012 Olympic Games in London, took them out to win the gold. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor after she retired. Both went on to win the bronze medal in beach volleyball at Rio Olympics 2016. They were joined by Walsh Jennings. Ross was a player for the USC Trojans in college after graduating from high school. Ross's time in the Trojans was impressive. In 2000 she was voted Pac-10 Freshman as well as NCAA Freshman Of The Year. She was also named an All-American. The Trojans could also reach the Final Four with her help. In her sophomore season she suffered a devastating personal loss, yet was able to be named an All-American. Over the course of her two final years with the Trojans, she helped them win consecutive championships. As an individual, she established herself as an all-time great having won the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross, an USC international relations student was a volleyball star. Unfortunately Ross mother Margie did not get to see her daughter ascend to the top levels of beach volleyball superstardom. Ross's mom passed away due to breast cancer while she was in her sophomore year at USC. Ross holds her mother close to her heart. Margie is a source of inspiration in her life and on the beach.
